Review: The Curse Defiers (The Curse Keepers #3) by Denise Grover Swank

Title: The Curse Defiers
Author: Denise Grover Swank
Synopsis:
For centuries the gods have waited—for the betrayal that will release them, for the traitors who will defend them, for the warrior who will challenge them. Now at long last the gate between the human and spirit worlds is open, and with it, an army of vengeful demons poised to swarm the earth. Only the Curse Keepers, Ellie Lancaster and Collin Dailey, can stop it…if they can break free from a tangled web of treachery, jealousy, and lies.

Torn between two men—her heart belongs to David, yet her soul is bound to Collin’s—Ellie no longer knows who she can trust. Demons slipping through the gate are leaving a trail of bodies in their wake, each death a chilling reminder of the power of the ancient spirits to bring humanity to its knees. Faced with an unimaginable future, Ellie realizes the time has come to turn her back on prophecy and choose her own destiny—even if it means defying the gods themselves.

In the thrilling conclusion to the Curse Keepers trilogy, humanity faces its final battle for survival!

I love this series so I was extremely happy when I got the chance to read the book early. I was waiting for this one since I finished the second part on release day and I can tell you that were a torturous few months.

Considering my high expectations of the book, I was extremely happy that it didn't disappoint. Not that I expected it to. Come on, it's a Denise Grover Swank book ;)

I loved all the intrigue and suspense in this book. It really kept me glued to my couch with all the revealed secrets, the heartbreak, the love... There isn't even one page that can bore you which considering that the book is close to 400p is really tough to do.

The characters are so real that it feels like I know them. They are imperfect, they make mistakes and their actions are quite frustrating sometimes but I think that's what makes them so lovable :) For me, Ellie is the most stubborn and frustrating character of all and quite often in the book I didn't agree with her actions. But by the end, I think she finally came to terms with her destiny and started doing things right.

On the other hand I am definitely torn between the two male leads in the series, David and Collin. Originally, I was all for Collin winning Ellie's heart, but now I am not so sure that he is the right one for her. But I mean, come on, what's not to like on both of them. On one side we have the ultimate bad boy, Collin, with a record and a dark rugged look and on the other side we have the extremely hot British professor. How is a girl supposed to choose between those two?

I have to mention, that for me a really big winning point for the series is it's that it is based on historical facts and real mysteries which makes it even more captivating :)

In a few words the book is amazing. To be honest the whole series is. And if you haven't read it yet, I definitely recommend it. You won't be disappointed. I can guarantee that.

I am a huge fan of Kindle Alexander and her books. She is one of my favourite authors since every book I read from her is always a 4 or 5 star story. And Full Disclosure is no exception.

Full Disclosure is the second book of the Nice Guys series where sexy Mitch and sweet Cody are the main characters though we can still appreciate the hotness of Colt and Jace from Double Full. The insta attraction between Mitch and Cody will leave you hot and desiring to be one of them or at least to be in the same room as them. Though their mutual attraction is instant their story evolves at a more slower pace since both of them are busy with their respective jobs being part of the law enforcement. But this slow built will make us enjoy more sex and foreplay scenes between this two god-men.

Eventhough Full Disclosure is in the M/M genre, I really think this can be a good starter novel for those that haven´t read anything from this genre since the story is not solely focused on sex between men. There is a mystery story that will keep you on your toes from the very beginning. And the romance between Cody and Mitch is way more truthful, intense and believable than many of the M/F books I´ve read.

I can´t wait to read the third book in the series since the main characters started to appear through the story, I am sure it will be another huge success for this author. I hope the release day is soon enough because I need my doses of hotness and awesomeness from Kindle Alexandre, like right now!!

I sincerely recommend this masterpiece from this wonderful author. The Nice Guy Series has become one of my favourite book series, not just from the M/M genre but from the whole books I´ve ever read. So if you haven´t tried anything about this author go and buy Double Full, the first book in this series and I can assure you  will end up buying Full Disclosure.

MeetTheAuthor
Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It's always a surprise to see what's coming next!

I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it's true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women's hair!

Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life - I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations - regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal... I don't want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I'm going to tell you about Kindle.

I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I'll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died - weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn't have to be alone.

That time in my life was terrible. It's everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness - it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.

Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn't a time she wasn't there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It's its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn't be here today without her.

Review: When You Make it Home by Claire Ashby

Title: When You Make it Home
Author: Claire Ashby
Publisher: Red Adept Publishing
Synopsis: Meg Michaels, a bookstore owner, has already walked away from two cheating exes. She’s learned her lesson and has her mind set on success—until she gets knocked up. Embarrassed and unwilling to discuss her situation with friends and family, she wears layers to hide the pregnancy. When Meg gets sick at a party, she’s mortified. Even worse, Theo Taylor, the guest of honor, discovers her secret. Theo, an Army medic wounded in the war, agrees not to reveal her condition, and the two forge a bond of friendship that blossoms into love. Theo is soon filling all of Meg’s late-night cravings—and not just the pregnancy-induced ones. But can their love overcome all the obstacles that stand between them and creating a happy family?

My Review:
When You Make it Home is the first debut novel of Claire Ashby and I have to say that I just became a fan of Ashby. If she can write this wonderful story as her debut, I definitely cannot wait to read her future books!

I am really not into books with pregnant women or babies in young girls because I don´t want to have children but this book was so well written and explained that I literally loved the whole story. I saw the pregnancy of Meg as a new beginning for her and Theo, it was heartbreaking to see their dily struggles while their love flourished.

Both main characters are perfectly depicted and described. Meg is sweet, strong, passionate and caring. She is the perfect other half for Theo, an ex soldier with PTSD problems. The story of the secondary characters it also addictive and very well developed. I really liked how in the end everything fit perfectly together because there were a lot of mysteries around this contemporary novel.

I specially liked the love and devotion Meg has for books and everything book related. I felt completely identified with her because one of my freams is to own a book shop like Meg´s.
When You Make it Home is the perfect novel for bookworms and book lovers. It is a sweet yet powerful story. A must read for this fall!

EXCERPT

That kid that could be mine.
I get up and let the empty bottle drop to the floor. The woods are eerily quiet, as if it can sense my anger. As if it knows the bitterness that lingers in my veins, as if it knows the burn of not knowing anything.
Like the woods, I’m left in the dark. Completely.
Branches and twigs crunch under my feet as I increase my pace to a gentle jog. And again, to a slow run. Then to a sprint.
The need to know increases with every footstep, as evenly paced as the ticking of the clock. It doesn’t matter that I’ve probably drunk too much beer to be here or that we’ve only been back for a matter of days.
I can’t be in this shithole full of memories without knowing. I can’t move on until I know. I can’t forgive her for a single fucking thing until I know—and even then, maybe I won’t be able to.
Maybe she’s unforgivable.
Instead of knocking on the back door like I did yesterday, I round the side of the house to the front door. The front room light glows softly through the curtains, but the rest of the house is dark.
My chest heaves with the exertion of my run here and I grab the doorframe to balance myself. I’m definitely too fucking drunk for this conversation, but what the hell.
I bang on the door, once, twice, again and again and again. “Sofie! Open the fuckin’ door!”
“Shut up!” she hisses, yanking it open. “The hell’re you doing here?”
I smirk, leaning against the wall. “Shouldn’t I be askin’ you that, princess?”
“Are you drunk?” Her voice rises a little at the end, and her eyes widen.
Those eyes. Fuck, those baby blues that have always undone me.
“Drunk? No. If I was drunk I’d be sitting at home like a miserable bastard and not here facing the cause of my misery.”
“You’re being an asshole. I don’t have to listen to this.”
She pushes on the door, but I wedge my foot in front of it. I let go of the wall and grab the edge of the door.
“Actually, you do.”
She can’t overpower me, and she knows it, because she lets up and the door swings open. “Why are you here, Conner?”
“You have a kid.”
She smacks her lips together. “Yep.”
“When? When did you have her?”
Sofie takes a deep breath in and presses her hands to her stomach. They’re shaking, even as she links her fingers to hide it. I can see that fucking tremble.
She whispers something but I’m too pre-occupied by her hands to hear it.
“What?”
“August last year,” she repeats, still a whisper.
August. Last year. My stomach clenches as I meet her eyes. “When? When in fuckin’ August, Sofie?”
“August fifteenth.” Her voice hitches halfway through the ‘fifteenth.’
Almost seven months to the day she walked out on me and the rest of Shelton Bay.
Adrenaline hums through my body, and I stare at her. At the tears building in her eyes, the quiver of her lips, the bob of her throat as she swallows harshly.
It’s no different from the burn in my chest, the twisting of my stomach.
“Is she mine?”
She shudders and a tear drips from her eye.
“Sofie. Is. She. Mine?!”

OMFG!!!

I thought that Follow was good and that Like was better but Block is like from another dimension. There were so many twists and so many unexpected things happening that my head is still spinning.

I loved seeing different sides from both Vaughn and Grace.  I never thought that the big movie star could be a vulnerable romantic (even if he has a little bit of a stalkerish side). It was definitely unexpected and I liked a lot his protectiveness of Grace. Yes, he did scr*ew up majorly but he did find the way to apologize and to show his Prince Charming side. The softer and romantic side of Vaughn Asher is simply every girl’s dream, and when you add all the hotness he is just the ultimate dream man ;)

On the other hand, I was a little bit frustrated with Grace and her stubbornness. I understand her fear of heartbreak but as Vaughn said, sometimes you “… have to take the risk,… What good is living if you have no real joy?” I really hope that Grace can deal with all her issues from the past and and finally accept that Vaughn is the perfect man for her ;)

I am not going to reveal any unexpected twists from the book but I have to warn you. By the end of this part you will want to pull your hair out, throw your Kindle or simply hit the closest wall. So be careful. The end is quite heartbreaking and it just fills your head with multiple possibilities

Writing has come similarly to her and once she discovered Wattpad, she finally plucked up the courage to post one of her stories. Seven million reads later, she self-published her debut novel THE BOY WHO SNEAKS IN MY BEDROOM WINDOW, which later became one of 10 Finalists for the 2012 Goodreads' Choice Awards, Best YA Fiction. Shocked and overwhelmed by the response, she published her second novel ALWAYS YOU a few months later.

If she had to sum herself up in one word, it would probably be 'daydreamer' - but unlike most of her school teachers, she doesn't necessarily view that as a bad thing. After all, she read somewhere once that books are like waking dreams....
