REVIEW: Reality

I am Arie Belle and up until my mother’s unexpected and mysterious death my life had been pretty simple, but then things became dark and, at times, hopeless. Even my uncanny ability to communicate with nature had turned its back on me. My only saving grace is my lifetime friendship with the boy next door, River, whom I had always thought of as my soul mate up until my eighteenth birthday when everything seemed to change. My body tingles with heightened sensations and my emotions veer out of control. They are further tested when Ashe, a beautiful stranger with a powerful draw, enters my life and challenges my heart and soul. Amidst the rush of feelings after years of numbness, my true destiny slowly unravels and my journey to find out what I am, to find my mother’s killer, and stop my own death becomes a frantic rush before the next full moon. This powerful story encaptures the true meaning of love and the dark corners of life that can either suck you in or save you.

The synopsis is really interesting and it has very appealing characters. I liked the beginning a lot, I was really hooked in the story but in the middle of all the mystery I kind of lose track of what was happening. It takes a lot of time to discover things and all the supernatural stuff wasn´t messing just with Arie´s mind but also with my mind. The incorporation of Ashe in the story made things a bit more interesting though I was team River from the very beginning.
The world the author has created is really original but I think there´s too much description about nature, I wanted more flashbacks to know more about Arie and her past life. All the mystery around the shadows is really appealing but I think more explanations were needed to solve all the questions around Arie.
Overall, I liked the book but the narative style didn´t draw me completely into the story and Arie´s behaviour with River and Ashe was mean sometimes and I didn´t like those scenes.
But it is really enjoyable to read, original and supernatural, a perfect read for fantasy lovers.
In the ending things end up in a rush and open so I think next book will be even better than this one.

Author Information: My passion for writing started at a very young age. It started with a multitude of diaries as soon as I could, then poetry, then short stories. I received my BA at USC in Theatre with an unofficial minor in writing. While at USC I wrote my first screenplay and post-graduation I was hired to write another screenplay, which I did successfully. Life got busy again and my passion was pushed aside, but then I met an amazing person who loved my story and encouraged me to start writing again. With that said, I am in a happier place now. I am fulfilling my inner desire and passion to write. I just self-published book one in The Life of Aries series and am currently working on book two. I am also working on an adult dark romance.

BLOG TOUR: SIA

When seventeen-year-old Sia wakes up on a park bench, she has no idea who or where she is. Yet after a week of being homeless, she’s reunited with her family. At school, she’s powerful and popular. At home, she’s wealthy beyond her dreams. But she quickly realizes her perfect life is a lie. Her family is falling apart and her friends are snobby, cruel and plastic. Worse yet, she discovers she was the cruelest one. Mortified by her past, she embarks on a journey of redemption and falls for Kyle, the “geek” she once tormented. Yet all the time she wonders if, when her memories return, she’ll become the bully she was before…and if she’ll lose Kyle.

My Review:

The first time I heard about SIA was through Netgalley and I was completely drawn to request it. The cover is beautiful in a mysterious and ethereal form, and then the synopsis is really catching. All the topics around amnesia has always interested me.

I was hooked in the story from the very first sentence. Sia faces some important issues that will make her grow as a new person. It is like she is on a quest to find who she really wants to be and who she was and decide which one is the true Sia.
The narrative is really easy to follow and I enjoyed the dialogues a lot since Grayson has been able to recreate how teenagers talk and behave nowadays.
Sia is a great character, she evolves through the novel, she learns from her mistakes and tries to change how she treated other people. She is also a complex character because she is having an internal battle to discover who she was, who she is and which Sia of those to she wants to be.
The secondary characters are really helpful and believables. I loved Kylie, he doesn´t falls for her and seeing their friendship evolve is really sweet.
I would really recommend Sia to YA who love sweet contemporary stories about self discovery. Sia is a really helpful story for young readers.

Ryka

Long time since we don´t post any hottie in our Bad  Boys Monday. Today you are going to meet my current book boyfriend Ryka!

Ryka is the main male character of the wonderful novel Halo by Frankie Rose. I met him yesterday and it was love at 2nd sight xD ( I was mourning Asha, I have a soft spot for that guy).
Ryka does not fit in the typical Bad Boy role, he is more kind of a Badass Boy.

He is eighteen years old, he is one of the most prominent figures in Freetown. He is tall, he has blonde hair and brown eyes. He is super hot and totally swoon worthy! And it is not just for his physic, which helps a lot, but for his personality and feelings toward Kit. I have whole pages highlighted when he speaks.

“Well, we’re friends. In that weird way where you’re eternally mad at me, and I’m eternally imagining what you look like naked.”

He is really protective with his family and the ones he love. He is a fighter and he would give his life for his family and Kit.

“I’m begging you not to choose this. Choose something else. Choose the possibility that there could be something else worth feeling all the bad stuff for. Choose me.”

You need to read Halo, like right know! You don´t know what you are missing till you meet Ryka.

Hace mucho tiempo que no publicamos a algún bombón en nuestro Bad Boys Monday . Hoy vais a conocer a mi actual novio ficticio Ryka !

Eligeme a mí " .

Necesitais leer Halo, ¡ahora mismo! En serio, no sabes lo que te falta hasta que conoces a Ryka.

REVIEW: Conklin´s Blueprints (#1)

Recent graduate Becca Stine’s all to perfect and predictable life went spiraling out of control when her supposed childhood friend committed the ultimate betrayal. Following college, Becca attempts to bury the pain by retreating into a dangerous lifestyle with her best friend, Jamie Rae. She decides it’s time to grow up after being irresponsible, broken, and out of control. To Becca’s horror, her only option is to return to her hometown of Grand Rapids. Worried she will forever live in the shadow of her prominent family’s notability, Becca decides moving is her only opportunity to get her feet back on the ground. With her best friend in tow, Becca reluctantly heads home to attempt to live her ideal life. Little does Becca know the owner of the architecture firm she lands a job with has an intriguingly mysterious son. Tyler Conklin is infatuated with Becca, yet is apprehensive about a public relationship because of his hidden baggage. Not wanting anyone to know about his slight obsession with her, their potential relationship must be kept a secret. Will Becca put up with Tyler’s untold story for long? Will she tolerate being his secret?

I received this book through the author. Thank you Brooke Page for giving it to us in exchange of a honest review.

When the author told me Conklin´s Blueprint´s was considered by some readers as the perfect mix of 50 Shades of Gray and Beautiful Disaster, I must admit I was reticent to read it. I think I´m one of the few people that don´t like 50 Shades but I decided to give it a try. And I am glad I did it because Page´s debut novel is really good.

The writing style is fluid and easy to follow.  The story is narrated through Becca´s point of view. I felt really connected with her and emphasized in many of her personality traits. She is a really well developed character and one of the things that hooked me. The love story is believable and romantic. I loved that they face some struggles and fights to achieve what they want.

Tyler was the only thing in the book that didn´t convinced me. I felt like his character was too artificial, his dialogues felt forced and I didn´t click with him or his story-.Though it is true that he evolves through the book, there were still some things that felt kind of forced and unreal. Maybe if there were some chapters narrated from his point of view I would have understood him better.

The subplots are well organized and fit in the story perfectly. The secondary characters are as important as the main characters and I loved that the story is not focused just on Tyler and Becca.
Overall all I loved how Page has developed the story and made Becca a stronger heroine than in the beginning. But there are still some issues that need to be solved and I hope it will resolve well in the next book.

I would recommend this book to: people who like a well developed story,  a strong character that evolves and faces her problems, a supportive male character and a well writing story.

Do you think this song fits Tyler and Becca??

Reap Book Blitz

Reap
Release Date: 10/11/13

Summary from Goodreads:
Foreign, or rather unfamiliar, would be the word I would use to describe how I felt.

Faintly, I could hear the glimmer of voices surrounding me in this dark haze, caressing my ears like skin against silk. I felt like I was in a cocoon of sorts, protectively enveloped, quietly drifting in some far-off place. I wanted to stay that way forever.

But we all know that what you want never really seems to happen in the real world.

Something’s not right in Mia’s head.

The first thing is that her name isn’t Mia. In fact, she has no clue what her name is—who she is. All that she knows is that she’s not like the ones who found her: Dante with his kind blue eyes, Amy with her child-like demeanor, James with his questioning gaze.

And Briggs.

The one she cannot decipher no matter how hard she tries.

As Mia tries to fit in with these people, a strange occurrence is amidst outside. And as she finally remembers who she is …

Well, let’s just say that things get a little more complicated.

REVIEW: Dangerous Depths

Hell hath no fury like a selkie separated from his true love. The gate to the sea creature realm is finally open. Yara wants to bask in the glow of her budding relationship with Treygan and explore Medusa’s world, but as the new leader of Rathe her powers are needed to save a sea creature she’s never met. Rownan assumes the worst is behind him when he returns home to be reunited with his wife, Vienna, only to discover she’s gone. She traveled to the evil realm of Harte to find another gateway to Earth and was never heard from again. Rownan claimed he would go through hell to be with her, and now he must prove it. Rownan, Yara, and Treygan will put their lives and souls at risk by traveling to the most dangerous realm of all. Love is supposed to conquer all, but no one has ever conquered Harte.

Dangerous Depths is the 2nd book in the Sea Monsters Memoirs Series. This book was much more than what I expected. At first, I thought it was going to be about Yara and Treygan and wondered what Karen could do to beat all the struggles they had to face in Tangled Tides. That is when she added Harte and Rownan´s POV. After reading Dangerous Depths I´m still wondering how the hell she did in this book to make me love Rownan more than Treygan when in Tangled Tides he was such a bastard. So imagine how good her writing is! I loved Rownan´s POV, his passion, his strength, his unconditional and infinite love for Vienna. I felt their love deep inside me, Karen has been able to create one of the most deep love stories that I´ve ever had the pleasure to read. And she did it through flashbacks and through the feelings of a boy. Can you believe it? Every time I read something about Rownan and Vienna either my heart melted of love or suffered for their pain. Her writing is  easy to follow but addictive at the same time. There isn´t any word in the book that doesn´t have meaning, every word has feelings behind. Each sentence has a power that drawns you to the depths of the story.

I also loved the addition of Nixie to the story and her lovelies sprites. I hope next book will be about her, that ending almost killed me. As in the first book, Yara and Treygan relationship is really sweet and I enjoyed seeing them fighting together against evil.

Before reading Dangerous Depths I was a huge fan of Karen´s imagination and works, but after reading this book...I am in awe towards her power of creativity. She created Rathe, which is pretty awesome by itself. Then added all the wonderful creatures that lived in there: mermaids, selkies, sprites, sirens, gorgons.... And then she created Harte and the Kraken, that I think will have more importance in the next book, or at least I hope so.

So yeah, I was a huge fan of her work before but after Dangerous Depths but after reading this absolutely, addictive, full of emotions book all I have to say is Karen you really got me with this book!
LOVE IT!!!

¡Me encanta !

Karen A. Hooper

I’ve loved mermaids since as far back as I can remember. This is me when I was two years old, holding my Sea Wees doll. See how happy I am? I grew up watching movies like Splash and The Little Mermaid, and you could find me swimming around the pool in our backyard with my legs stuck together, pretending I had a tail and fins. Fast forward a couple (maybe a few) decades and I’m still playing make-believe with mermaids–except now they’re in my novels instead of a toy box. I’m a self-proclaimed twisted little pixie. I believe that magic and true love really do exist, even in a world that can be ugly at times. I like to dance down rabbit holes and ride shooting stars while playing a never-ending game of “Imagine If…” Then I write about my impossible and fantastical musings and call myself an author. Honestly, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I love storytelling way too much. I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, but I’ve also lived in Colorado. Eventually, I had to move to a place where I’d be surrounded by water, so I now live in Florida. When I’m not writing I can be found reading, people watching at Disney World, hanging with my amazing friends and family, listening to music, dancing, traveling, pondering the Universe, or enjoying breathtaking sunsets and a good glass of white wine. I love great food, desserts, more desserts, movies that make me laugh or cry, thunderstorms, butterflies in my stomach, curtains blowing in the breeze, my dogs tails wagging because they are happy to see me, thrilling rides, books that make me think or learn something new, Ravens football, long warm baths, smiling uncontrollably, flavored coffee, an amazing dream that stays with me all day, popping popcorn the old-fashioned way, jumping out of airplanes, board games, lotto scratch-offs, and flying to Neverland. I’m a constant work in progress.(From her webpage)

I discovered Karen´s books this year and after reading Grasping at Eternity she became one of my favourite authors. Her stories are full of romance, fantasy, mystery and adventure all at the same time. Her writing style is catching and easy to understand. I love all the characters from her books, specially the boys (Team Nathan & Team Rownan!!)
I´ve just finished reading Dangerous Depths and I can´t wait to post my 5 stars review for the release day!!

Here´s a song that reminds me a lot about Maryah and Nathan in Grasping at Eternity. You just have to listen to the lyrics, it is perfect! What do you think??

Dark Musicals Trilogy BOOK BLITZ

Summary from Goodreads:
The “Phantom” was a musical phenomenon that Rebecca had always found enchanting. She had no idea that her life was about to mirror the play that was her obsession. When her high school drama club chooses “Phantom” as their annual production, Rebecca finds herself in the middle of an unlikely love triangle and the target of a sadistic stalker who uses the lines from the play as their calling card.

Rebecca lands the lead role of Christine, the opera diva, and like her character, she is torn between her two co-stars—Tom the surfer and basketball star who plays the lovable hero, and Justyn, the strangely appealing Goth who is more than realistic in the role of the tortured artist.

Almost immediately after casting, strange things start to happen both on and off the stage. Curtains fall. Mirrors are shattered. People are hurt in true phantom style. They all seem like accidents until Rebecca receives notes and phone calls that hint at something more sinister. Is Justyn bringing to life the twisted character of the phantom? Or in real life are the roles of the hero and the villain reversed? Rebecca doesn’t know who to trust, but she knows she’s running out of time as she gets closer and closer to opening night. Only when the mask is stripped away, will the twenty first century phantom finally be revealed.

Summary from Goodreads:
When Justyn and Rebecca set off to attend the New York School of Performing Arts, they think their dreams are about to come true. To their dismay, they aren’t in high school anymore, and the competition is steep. Rebecca must compete against accomplished singers for a role in the production of Demon Barber, including a stunning Gothic diva with her sights set on Justyn.

It doesn't help that things keep disappearing from their apartment or that Rebecca's father refuses to accept that Justyn is an essential part of her life. Yet, all this seems minimal in comparison to the serial rapist terrorizing the campus.

Consumed by fear and obsessed with revenge, Rebecca and Justyn start living the story of Sweeney Todd—both on and off the stage.

Summary from Goodreads:
Rebecca Hope has looked death in the face twice and lived to tell her tale.

She and the love of her life, Justyn Patko, land a summer internship at a local dinner theater, performing the musical Hyde. While they are excited about their first paid acting gig, they soon find themselves surrounded by more experienced cast mates, jealous of their success. As if the tension isn’t bad enough, they soon discover that the business might be a front for something much more sinister.

When Justyn is accused of a crime that she knows he would never commit, Rebecca must decide if she wants to follow her head or her heart. While trying to prove his innocence, she makes a shocking discovery of her own.

Everyone has something to conceal in the grand finale of the Dark Musicals Trilogy. Rebecca has to look beyond the façade to discover the true Hyde or face her final curtain call.

EXCERPT:
Rebecca unwound the silver ribbon. When she lifted the lid, she found two matching pendants, each laced to a long hemp chain. They were shaped sort of like seashells, with an endless spiral pattern that looped out from the center as the chambers grew larger. They were dark brown in color with a few hints of tan along the edges. The stones had been polished and smoothed on both sides, but when she lifted them, she could see that the two pieces fit together perfectly. She swore the halves fought to snap together, like magnets in her hand. There was an energy pulsing and vibrating within the stones that even a novice witch like Rebecca could feel.
“They’re beautiful,” Rebecca whispered as she ran her hand along the intricate grooves.
“It’s an ammonite.” Justyn lifted one of the pendants, brushed her hair to the side, and hooked the clasp around her neck. His breath tickled her skin as his hands moved with graceful dexterity, giving her goose bumps despite the humid August night. “They’re actually fossils that are millions of years old, named after Ammon, an ancient Egyptian deity. When they’re divided in half, they’re perfect mirrors of one another. Some cultures believe that if the two halves are given to lovers, it will bind them together forever. When made into necklaces, they’re often called soul mate pendants.”
“Wo-wow,” Rebecca stuttered. As usual, the sentiment behind Justyn’s gift was even more beautiful than the gift itself. It left her a little flustered. “That’s amazing. How do you know all this stuff?”
“You don’t spend eighteen years living with Darlene without learning a thing or two.”
Rebecca laughed. Justyn’s mother Darlene was definitely something special. EMT, exotic belly dancer, and Wiccan High Priestess were only a few of the titles she claimed. Rebecca knew she was a fountain of earth-based knowledge after years of studying the Craft. As Darlene’s new apprentice, Rebecca greedily dipped into that knowledge herself as often as possible.
“It’s beautiful,” Rebecca repeated, too overcome with emotion to think of anything more eloquent to say. “You certainly know how to make things interesting.”
“Like I told you on our first date, I try not to be boring.” He winked at her. “So … are you going to put mine on for me?”
“Oh yeah … sorry.”
Rebecca giggled as she lifted the hemp chain. She wasn’t nearly as graceful as Justyn. She almost dropped the necklace in the sand three times before she managed to get the clasp locked. When she finally had it secured, he placed his hand over her heart, where the ammonite lay. He did the same with her hands, lifting them to his chest. His dark eyes had lost all glimmer of humor. He met her gaze with a stare filled with genuine emotion. Beneath her fingers, she could feel the gentle, steady rhythm of his heart beating in perfect tune with her own.
“Our love will span both space and time. In this life and the next, you shall be mine. All eternity I will be by your side. For a love so strong cannot be denied. Spirit and flesh merged into one. So mote it be, for all days to come.”
When he was done with the recitation, he kissed her. Not just a gentle brush, but a deep, passionate embrace that left her throat tight and her heart pounding with a familiar  yearning.
“I’ve never heard that poem before,” she said once she’d caught her breath. “Who are you quoting?”
Even in the moonlight, she could see him blush. “I guess I was quoting myself. It was really more of an incantation than a poem though. These necklaces are meant to be a symbol of our love, and it seemed a little spell work could only add to the power of the stones. There is power in words, Becca. Just like there is power in nature.”
“You mean, you wrote that?”
He nodded, but his eyes twinkled, and the playfulness was back in his voice. “Well, actually, I just made it up as I went along.”
“Wow. Actor, singer, and now an improv poet slash chant writer. Is there anything you can’t do, Lord Justyn?”

He smiled and tilted her chin so he could look into her eyes. “I can’t stop loving you.”
