About THE FRAGILE ORDINARY:

I am Comet Caldwell.
And I sort of, kind of, absolutely hate my name.
People expect extraordinary things from a girl named Comet. That she’ll be effortlessly cool and light up a room the way a comet blazes across the sky.
But from the shyness that makes her book-character friends more appealing than real people to the parents whose indifference hurts more than an open wound, Comet has never wanted to be the center of attention. She can’t wait to graduate from her high school in Edinburgh, Scotland, where the only place she ever feels truly herself is on her anonymous poetry blog. But surely that will change once she leaves to attend university somewhere far, far away.

When new student Tobias King blazes in from America and shakes up the school, Comet thinks she’s got the bad boy figured out. Until they’re thrown together for a class assignment and begin to form an unlikely connection. Everything shifts in Comet’s ordinary world. Tobias has a dark past and runs with a tough crowd—and none of them are happy about his interest in Comet. Targeted by bullies and thrown into the spotlight, Comet and Tobias can go their separate ways…or take a risk on something extraordinary.

“Endearing and relatable, Comet-the girl who is searching for her place in this world-will shoot through the sky and into your heart.”— #1 New York Times bestselling author Erin Watt

EXCERPT: By the time we got to the house and I let us into my bedroom, I was a jittering wreck. Massive waves of nervous energy were emanating from Tobias, making me worse. He was rarely nervous about anything. Once inside my room, I waited impatiently as Tobias slumped down on my bed, elbows on knees, head in hands. I shrugged out of my jacket and unwound my scarf. Still waiting. “Comet,” he huffed, not looking up. “Sit down, okay, you’re making me nervous.” “You’re making me nervous.” I sat on the armchair across from him. “You and Stevie didn’t kill someone, did you? Did Dean dispose of the body for you and now he’s blackmailing you?” Tobias’s broad shoulders shook and he lifted his head to stare at me with amusement tinged with sadness. “You’ve got to stop reading so many books.” “Never.” He smiled at me, his look so tender that I squirmed with the need to shoot across the room and throw my arms around him. Instead I met his gaze and asked directly, “What happened back there?” “I just chose you over Stevie,” he said. I swear my eyebrows must have hit my hairline at this pronouncement. “What?” “Stevie and some of the guys have been hanging around Dean more and more. Dean is a dealer. And he’s part of something bigger—we’re talking an adult-sized, criminal gang who deal drugs and steal cars for a living. Dean deals cocaine to kids. Blair Lochrie High School is one of his grounds. He sells to quite a few kids there.” At our high school? Class A drugs at our high school? “Bloody hell,” I whispered, “Where have I been?” “Where I prefer you—safe with your nose stuck in a book.” “Tobias…Stevie?” Hearing the worry in my voice, he winced. “I tried, Com. I tried to keep him out of it, but he’s so messed up and I couldn’t stop him. I hung around to make sure he was okay.” “Is that why you’ve been avoiding me?” God, please let that be why he was avoiding me. “Yes.” A million apologies swirled in his gorgeous eyes. “I didn’t mean for Stevie to find out about you, because I didn’t want you anywhere near the stuff he was getting involved in. But then you two got along, so well I thought you might…have feelings for each other, so I told him that he either stopped hanging around Dean or he stopped hanging around you. He agreed keeping you out of that stuff, away from the boys, was better for you. So we stopped coming around as much and then stopped coming around at all. Tonight was his initiation into Dean’s crew. It was supposed to be both our initiations, I guess, because Dean was sending Stevie to some other party with drugs, and I was following Stevie as backup. Now I’m not.” There was so much to process in what he’d just said. My brain blurted out the first thing it wanted to deal with. “Stevie and I don’t have feelings for each other. I don’t like Stevie, Tobias.” His eyes widened as my tone implied that I liked someone else. “No?” “No.” “Good. Because I just left him to that hell.” He stood up and started pacing back and forth. “I tried to help him even if it meant hurting you, and he just let himself get pulled further down into that crap.” I stood up, reached out to touch him, to slow him down. He stilled, looking at my hand on his arm. “What did you mean? You chose me over Stevie?” “Comet, Dean made it clear that if I left with you, I couldn’t go around there or anywhere near him again. So I either had to stay and go with Stevie as his backup on a drug deal and leave you to handle Dean on your own, or I could walk out of there with you and leave Stevie to do it alone. For good.” His gaze moved over my face, as if he were committing each feature to memory. My heart started thudding so hard the blood rushed through my ears. “So you chose me.” “Of course,” he choked out. “I’d never let anything happen to you. And seeing you there…I never want to see that crap touch you again. It was a wake-up call for me. I don’t want to be a part of that shit either. That’s not me.” Seeing something in his expression made me brave in a way I never thought I could be. Knees trembling, I stepped up to him and placed a hand on his chest, over his heart. His chest was strong and hard beneath my hand, his body heat surrounding me and that woodsy, spicy, citrusy scent he wore teasing my senses. I wanted to sway into him, hold him tight, and never let go, but I had something important to say first now that I had his absolute attention. “Being a good student, working for something, achieving something, playing hard at football…it wasn’t all for your dad, Tobias. There is no maybe about it. Deep down you want those things for yourself, too. You’re smart and good and such a special person.” I gave him a tremulous smile, wondering if how I felt for him was as obvious to him as it was to apparently everyone else. “You deserve the life you really want.” His chest rose and fell faster beneath my hand as we stared into one another’s eyes. Tobias licked his lips, as if he was nervous. “What if I want to get my grades back up?” “Then I’ll help.” “And join the rugby team?” “Then you’ll try out.” He nodded and slowly lifted his hand to cover mine. He took a step closer to me, his breathing sounding a little shaky. The thud of his heart racing beneath my palm made mine accelerate. My legs shook and my fingers curled into Tobias’s shirt. “And…what if what I really want…is you?” Joy flooded me. I can’t truly describe the feeling. The euphoria. The excitement and thrill and fear and worry that cascaded through me at the thought of being with Tobias King. No matter the plethora of emotions that came with his question, my answer was instant and absolute. “Then you have me.”

REVIEW
Wow, Samantha Young once again confirms her sublime mastery in writing stories that really touch a reader's heart <3
I have to admit I don't read a lot of YA books anymore, but this book was really a great read for me.

First of all, it was soooo realistic! Sometimes YA books have so much drama, and every emotion needs to be exponentially magnified... But not in "The Fragile Ordinary", nono. This is one of the things that I appreciated the most, the fact that there were some difficulties to overcome, and also big and though ones, but everything was developed really well, the storyline flew, and nothing felt forced or constructed.

Comet was such an interesting character, in so many different ways. From her fashion style, to her personality, to her way of dealing with her life and every situation. She was really mature for her age, and I recognised myself a little bit in her. I loved the fact that she had firm life goals already at 16, and that she did her best to reach them, even by being brave and overcoming her insecurities.
Samantha Young managed to make of Comet a strong and mature teenager, but yet still a teenager, so with difficulties typical of her age: balancing friendships, love issues, family problems.

The book was written from Comet's point of view, so we don't get a direct insight of Tobias's thoughts, but like for Comet, I really liked how he was portrayed and characterised. He had a different life story than Comet, he is a different person with a different personality, but he fit perfectly in this book. Through Tobias and his family, Samantha Young talks about some really delicate issues that unfortunately are quite frequent right now, and I admired how those issues were dealt with.

A great addition to the story were also the secondary characters, how each one of them represented part of the real word and its diversity.

We can say that this book saw a very important character growth for many of its characters, and this is another reason why I appreciated it really much.

I don't want to spoiler anything about this book, but I will just say that I definitely recommend it, both if you are a YA lover or not, because this book it's not a simple YA romance book, but in a certain way it also gives some very important life lessons.

Excerpt:

I sit down in the desk chair and lean back, balancing on the hind legs like my mother always told me not to. I fold my hands behind my head, put my feet on the desk, and sigh with contentment. Because life is sweet.

It’s going to be a great year.

They’re not all great—some years suck donkey balls—my best players graduate and it’s a rebuilding year, which means a lot of ‘L’s’ on the board, or sometimes you just get a crappy crop of students. But this year’s going to be awesome—I can feel it.

And then, something catches my eye outside the window in the parking lot.

Someone.

And my balance goes to shit.

I swing my arms like a baby bird, hang in the air for half a second…and then topple back in a heap. Not my smoothest move.

But right now, it doesn’t matter.

I pull myself up to my feet, step over the chair towards the window, all the while peering at the blond in the navy blue pencil skirt walking across the parking lot.

And the ass that, even from this distance—I would know anywhere.

Callaway Carpenter. Holy shit.

She looks amazing, even more beautiful than the last time I saw her…than the first time I saw her. You never forget your first. Isn’t that what they say? Callie was my first and for a long time, I thought she’d be my only.

The first time I laid my eyes on her, it felt like getting sacked by a three-hundred pound defensive lineman with an axe to grind. She looked like an angel. Golden hair framing petite, delicate features—a heart-shaped face, a dainty jaw, a cute nose and these big, round, blinking green eyes I wanted to drown in.

Wait…back up…that’s not actually true. That’s a lie.

I was fifteen when I met Callie, and fifteen year old boys are notorious perverts, so the first thing I noticed about her wasn’t her face. It was her tits—they were full and round and absolutely perfect.

The second thing I noticed was her mouth—shiny and pink with a bee-stung bottom lip. In a blink, a hundred fantasies had gone through my head of what she could do with that mouth…what I could show her how to do.

Then I saw her angel face. That’s how it happened.

And just like that—I was gone.

We were “the” couple in high school—Brenda and Eddie from that Billy Joel song. The star quarterback and the theater queen.

She was the love of my life, before I had any fucking idea what love was…and then, still, even after I did.

We broke up when she went away to college and I stayed here in Jersey—couldn’t survive the distance. It was a quiet ending, when I went out to visit her in California, no drama or hysterics. Just some hard truths, tears, one last night together in her dorm room bed, and a morning of goodbye.

She never really came home again after that. At least, not long enough for us to run into each other. I haven’t seen her in years—in a lifetime.

But she’s here now.

At my school.

And you can bet Callie’s sweet ass I’m going to find out why.

Excerpt:

Head turned down, pushing the sleeves of his white Henley up his arms, he swaggers toward me. His jeans hang low on his hips, held up by the same brown belt he wore the other night. His narrow waist directs my eyes to the center of his jeans, and I can’t help wonder what might be behind the crotch of his pants.

And then there is his chest. Barrel like, broad and prominent. His thick biceps showcase his strength, and the fabric of his shirt stretches over his shoulders and forearms. Having spent a lot of time at the gym, I’ve seen every body type, but Colby’s is different. He’s strong, built, but not like a body builder. His body seems to suggest the only kind of weight he’s been lifting is his own body, pushup after pushup. I can’t imagine there being barbells in his workouts, but I can imagine logs, cadets, and heavy machinery. He has working muscles, the kind you earn from hard, dedicated work on the field. In a word? Impressive.

Walking up to Stryder, he grips his friend’s shoulder and says something into his ear. A smirk crosses Stryder’s face before he moves over to our side of the bowling alley and takes Colby’s place.

Is he leaving? Already?

Might as well at this point. It’s not like he’s going to talk to me, not after my pathetic attempt at a bet. I should have known I was going to hang out in the gutter all night. It’s where I usually am when I’m bowling. I blame the ball. The thing has a vendetta against me.

Sighing, I prop my chin in my hand and watch Stryder expertly toss his ball down the lane, getting a strike . . . once again. And just like every other strike, he pumps his arm up in the air and celebrates. We get it, you’re good, no need to—

“Hey.”

That voice . . .

Stunned, eyes wide, not able to move, not wanting to scare him away, I keep my eyes trained forward, soaking in that beautifully deep voice of his for a brief moment before saying, “Hey.”

“Can I sit here?”

Still keeping my eyes trained forward, I say, “Sure.”

My body tingles with awareness of how close he is to me, that fresh laundry scent invading my senses, prickling the little hairs on my arm. My body leans toward his, wanting a little more, searching for anything else he might give me. I don’t know why he’s choosing to engage me in conversation, but I’m sure as hell not moving while he does.

“Sorry about tonight,” he says and he actually sounds sincere.

“Why are you sorry?” I mumble.

Reaching around, he takes my cheek in his hand. The callouses on his palm rubbing against my skin is a welcome sensation. As I’m turned toward him, I steady my breathing. I’m having a hard time slowing my heart rate because of his close proximity, and the unexpected touch shooting a wave of heat through my veins.

“I’m sorry you didn’t get to ask me any questions. I didn’t think you were going to suck that bad.” A playful smile tugs at his lips, and my heart sinks to the floor. Oh God, he’s so gorgeous, especially when he smiles.

Matching his smirk, I say, “I didn’t think I was going to suck that bad either.”

“I feel bad.”

“You should.” That garners a laugh, deep and throaty, the sound cloaking me like a shield, protecting me from the outside world, bringing me into a little bubble where we are the only two that exist.

“Ask me a question.”

Shocked, I swallow hard and say, “Really?”

He nods and holds up his fingers. “You get three.”

“Oh, three? Wow, I feel like you just gave me the key to your soul.”

Rolling his eyes, he adjusts his stance on the barstool and leans back, giving us some space, our knees still knocking into each other. “Easy killer; it’s just three questions.”

“Yeah, three questions I didn’t have before.” Tapping my chin, I try to think of good questions, but now that I have him willing and waiting, nothing comes to mind. I wasn’t prepared for this, he caught me off-guard, and now I feel I can’t be strategic about my probing. “Hmm . . . what do you like to do on the weekends?”

“Jump,” he answers.

Searching his eyes, lips quirked, I say, “Uh, you’re going to have to be more specific than that. What kind of jumping are we talking here? Like jump roping? Because that seems kind of weird to do on the weekends, and if you tell me you’re in some kind of jump-roping club at the academy, I’m not going to believe you.”

His lips curve up as he scratches the side of his jaw. “Jump out of airplanes.”

Oh.

Oh.

That’s . . .

Uh, that’s really hot.

“So you just casually jump out of airplanes?”

“I’m part of the Wings of Blue, the academy’s parachute team. We jump every day, at least two to three times a day after class and before dinner, depending on wind and ceiling limits. On the weekends, some of the guys, including Stryder and me, go to Springs East Airport and do civilian jumps. The more jumps we get in, the higher the chance we’ll be considered for big demonstrations, like parachuting into football games and major sporting events for the Rockies and Broncos.” Ummmm. Did anyone else just hear how many words he gifted me? And seriously? Does the man have no clue how incredibly sexy he is when he talks about something he loves? The expression on his face . . .

“Wow, that’s . . . that’s really hot.” I chuckle. “Sorry, I don’t mean to fangirl over your parachuting, but I guess I wasn’t expecting that answer. You just jump out of planes?”

He slowly nods. “Every day.”

“Anything to get you up in the clouds, huh?”

“Yeah,” he answers shyly, rubbing his jaw. “Okay, next question.”

My Review:
I've read quite a few of Meghan Quinn's romantic comedy books and I've loved each one of them. But The Upside of Falling is the type of books that will fill your soul with romance, love, devotion, hope and then it will tear your heart apart.

It's been a while since a book made me feel as much as this one did and I am not even sure I can express everything that's in my heart right now. Colby and Rory are two incredible characters. Their chemistry is combustible and their feelings are undeniable. Though the road is not easy, they find the way to each other's hearts. Until all they have is torn into pieces and leaves them with bleeding hearts, craving to be one again.

As I said, words evade me to express how deeply I was touched by this story. Meghan Quinn has impeccable writing style but this books is simply on a completely new level of perfection. In my opinion, it is a must read and I would recommend you pick up your copy right now. Just be prepared with a box of tissues because you will probably need them. And be aware that there is a cliffhanger and no HEA at least at this point. :'(

I am not saying any more because I think you should find everything else for yourself. So happy reading and be ready for the heartbreak. As for me, I can't wait to get my hands on the second books. I just hope it doesn't completely destroy me

Release Day Blitz: Mister Tonight by Kendall Ryan

Title: Mister Tonight
Author: Kendall Ryan
Release Date: June 18th, 2018

Synopsis:

From New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan comes a standalone romance about a swoony single dad and the new neighbor he falls for.

Last night was the most embarrassing night of my life.

I was THAT girl.

You know, the highly intoxicated chick celebrating her thirtieth with her two best friends—the ones who are happily married. And the more I drank, the more I wanted to do something reckless to celebrate.

By reckless, I meant the sexy and alluring man dressed in a business suit standing near the bar. You know his type—tall, dark, and handsome. I was sure he was out of my league, but I'd had just enough alcohol that things like that no longer seemed to matter. I'm not fat, mind you, but you can tell I like French fries, so there's that.

He took me home and I enjoyed the hottest birthday sex of my life, well until it came to a screeching, and rather unwelcome halt.

There's nothing quite like being interrupted mid-ride with a little voice asking:

"What are you doing to my daddy?"

Just kill me now…... or so I thought.

Come to find out the man I rode like a bull at the rodeo is my new landlord.

Review

Yesssss, a thousand times yes!
Absolutely loved this book <3
After I met Will and Josey in the previous book, I was really curious to see how such two different people could mesh together and make a good couple… But as everyone says, opposites attract!

Josey was such a breath of fresh air. In The Cad and The Co-ed there were some times where I really didn’t get her behaviour, but after reading her story, I now think she just have a big, kind heart and so much love to give to her family and friends. Josey has an amazingly open personality, no qualms at saying what she thinks, and I loved her for this.
Having such a particular personality was not always easy for her, because she didn’t really conform to the other people, but she really found her perfect match in Will.

Will is the total opposite of Josey… He is a great guy, but serious, quiet, with a life ruled by rules and order. We can say that his friendship with Josey is a lifesaver for him, the perfect girl in the right moment of his life.

Their friendship is for sure one of a kind, if we think about why they came together for the first time… But little by little they get to know each other, and really start to appreciate one another.

I loved how the story developed, it gave a real idea of how they both struggled in letting their fears go. Because yes, Will’s scars might have been the more obvious, but also Josey had her part of doubts, mainly because of her fear of not being accepted as she was.

One thing that I admired in both of them was the openness towards the diverse. Josey was so understanding regarding Will’s situation, while Will wasn’t scared by Josey strong and full of life personality.

As always, I loved the addition of some amazing secondary characters, who gave even more to the main story.

It was definitely a great read for me, and now I really hope we will get to now more about Broderick and Eloise…. never say never!
