Book Oscar Winner: Interview with L.J. Shen

Hey Everyone :)

We have a really fun interview with The Book Oscar Winner in the category for Best Couple, L.J. Shen :) Just scroll down and check it out :)

Hi Leigh :)

Congratulations on your win and welcome to Living in Our Own Story :) Thanks a lot for sparing the time to answer a few questions for us and our readers.

LIOS:  What prompted you to write and release your first book?.
Leigh: I really wanted to write an MMA romance because at the time, there weren’t that many. That’s about it. I didn’t do any promotion or had an idea what I was doing. I just hit publish.

LIOS:  What is your inspiration for writing such incredible books?
Leigh: Thank you! I have no idea where I find my inspiration to be honest. My characters just come to me I guess. I love reading and watching movies and TV. I am constantly inspired by other people’s art.

LIOS:  When did you know you wanted to be an author?
Leigh: From when I was six probably, and learned how to read.

LIOS: How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Leigh: Between 7-8 months editing excluded.

LIOS: Who is your favorite book boyfriend?
Leigh: Jared Trent from the Fall Away Series.

LIOS:  Who is your author idol?
Leigh: There are a few. Outside the romance genre, I love Jonathan Franzen, Zadie Smith, Stephen King, Joe Hill and JK Rowling. In “our” genre: Colleen Hoover, Penelope Douglas, JA Huss, Jay Crownover, Kristen Ashley. I admire brave writers who push the envelope and go against the grain.

LIOS:  What sexy scene from your books you would like to re-enact in real life?
Leigh: Uh, all of them? I really give it my all when I write the sex scenes in my books. I try not to re-hash the last book and give every character their style of what they like in bed/what they do in bed.

LIOS: Do you remember the first book that made you cry and how old were you?
Leigh: The Promise by Danielle Steel. I guess I was…nine? I’m pretty sure I snuck that book into my room without anyone noticing.

LIOS: What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
Leigh: Nothing. I feel like it’s easier for me to write a man than a woman. Men don’t have to be as likeable/well-mannered and spoken as women in romance books. And I’ve had the pleasure (or misfortune) to hang out with enough men in my life to know how their mind works more or less.

LIOS: What was your hardest scene to write?
Leigh: The last 20% of the book in general are the hardest for me to write.

LIOS: What can we expect from you next?
Leigh: A lot of twisty, sweet, funny, sad, emotional, detached things. Yes. All of them.

LIOS: Thank you Leigh for spending some time with us and answering our questions :) We love you :)

Book Oscars 2016: Introducing L.J. Shen

Hey Everyone :)

It's time to introduce you to another one of our Book Oscar winners :)

Let us introduce you to L.J. Shen,
the winner in the Best Couple category with Vicious & Emilia.

About the Author:
L.J. Shen is a #1 Best-selling author of contemporary romance books.

She lives in California with her husband, son and cat. Lover of big books, large coffee cups and small furry things, she writes words for a living and is in a complicated relationship with carbs.

About L.J. Shen's Books:

Synopsis:
Rock bottom has built way more champions than privilege ever has.

Blaire, an underachieving college student with zero prospects and a ton of issues (hey, being the less-successful twin of a gorgeous supermodel would totally do that to you) needs something from Ty.

Mixed Martial artist Ty, a soon-to-be Welterweight champion of the Xtreme Warrior League and the hottest guy in the Bay Area, wants something from Blaire.

But Ty has a secret.
And Blaire can barely even handle his truths.

Life is about to throw a few knockout punches at both of them. Can they handle the pain?

Synopsis:

Troy Brennan

Every southie in Boston knows that name. The son of a dead mobster. The heart throb with steel blue eyes. "The Fixer" who can make or break you in this city.

Oh, and my new husband.

Sparrow Raynes

That's me. No one seemed to remember my name up until he barged into my life.

But then he caged me.

Kidnapped me.

And killed every chance I had to runaway from the place where we grew up.

Put simply, Troy Brennan clipped my wings.

I have dreams, big ones, but I doubt he'd ever let me chase them. I have no idea why he'd decided to take me as his wife. But I do know this: pissing off this man will not do me any good. At all.

Sparrow is a standalone, full-length novel. It contains graphic violence and adult situations some may find offensive.

Synopsis:
His name is Beat, and I should hate him.

Bound, blindfolded and bruised, I'm tied in his basement, waiting for the men who stripped me from clothes and humanity to collect his debt to them. Me.

His name is Nate and I should hate him, but I don't.

I'm not supposed to know his real name, even worse, I'm not supposed to care. He is nothing to me but means to an end. The plan is simple: break free, collect the pieces of my broken soul, kill the bastards and run away.

His name is Nathaniel Thomas Vela, and I've never seen his face, though I hear that it's beautiful.

Behind the rugged and handsome exterior, there's a quiet murderer, a killer who thinks guns are for pussies and ends people with his bare hands.

His name doesn't matter, neither does his face, but what does matter is my heart. And right now, sadly, it's his.

Blood to Dust is a standalone, full-length novel. It contains graphic violence and adult situations some may find offensive.

Synopsis:
Emilia

They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it’s true.
The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares.
He is a brilliant lawyer.
A skilled criminal.
A beautiful liar.
A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover.
Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn’t leaving until he takes me with him.

Vicious

She is a starving artist.
Pretty and evasive like cherry blossom.
Ten years ago, she barged into my life unannounced and turned everything upside down.
She paid the price.
Emilia LeBlanc is completely off-limits, my best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The woman who knows my darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap Help we hired to take care of our estate.
That should deter me from chasing her, but it doesn’t.
So she hates me. Big fucking deal.
She better get used to me.

Synopsis:
My name is Melody Greene, and I have a confession to make.
I slept with my student, a senior in high school.
Multiple times.
I had multiple orgasms.
In multiple positions.
I slept with my student and I enjoyed it.
I slept with my student and I’d do it all over again if I could turn back time.
My name is Melody Greene, and I got kicked out of my position as a teacher and did my walk of shame a la Cersei Lannister from the principal’s office, minutes after said principal threatened to call the cops on me.
My name is Melody Greene, and I did something bad because it made me feel good.
Here is why it was totally worth it.

Book Oscar Winner: Interview with M. Robinson

Hey Everyone :)

We have a really fun interview with The Book Oscar Winner in the category for Best Cover, M. Robinson :) Just scroll down and check it out :)

Hi Monica :)

Congratulations on your win and welcome to Living in Our Own Story :) Thanks a lot for sparing the time to answer a few questions for us and our readers.

LIOS:  What prompted you to write and release your first book?.
Monica: I’ve always been an avid reader. I have been a reader since I was a kid, so books have always been a passion of mine. The only reason I released a book in the first place, was because my husband pushed me to. He spent over a year trying to convince me to write one. So one day I just sat down and started writing, and the rest is history!

LIOS:  How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Monica: Give or take six weeks to write a full length novel.

LIOS:  Who is your favorite book boyfriend?
Monica: Alexander from The Bronze Horseman Trilogy by Paullina Simons

LIOS: How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Monica: Depending on the content of the book. The darker books took me the longest. I was so excited to write Tempt the Boss that it took me a month.

LIOS:  Who is your author idol?
Monica: Paullina Simons, author of The Bronze Horsemen Trilogy. I am obsessed with her characters and writing style. I have read those books at least 20 times each and feel like I’m reading them for the first time again. She is definitely my author idol, hands down.

LIOS:  What sexy scene from your books you would like to re-enact in real life?
Monica: All of them *Wink ;)

LIOS: Do you remember the first book that made you cry and how old were you?
Monica: A Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer not sure how old I was.

LIOS: What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
Monica: Definitely switching back and forth from one POV to the next. I’m in one mind set for a while and then have to switch to a male. Can be challenging at times not making him sound like a female lol.

LIOS: How do you select the names of your characters?
Monica: I pick names that I like generally. For characters that make small appearances I will use some of my Beta Readers names, or friends names ;) Before I was naming all my heroines after my nieces, but I ran out of them now. So just names that interest me, names I would choose for my own kids.

LIOS: What was your hardest scene to write?
Monica: One of my characters from one of my books had to say their final goodbye to a loved one that had cancer. It was hard to write because it was like taking a page out of my own book and wrote everything I went through for that scene. Every emotion I had was poured out into that scene.

LIOS: What can we expect from you next?
Monica: Expect the unexpected! As far as my next book… El Santo will be releasing August 29th, 2017. You meet him in Ends Here.

LIOS: Thank you Monica for spending some time with us and answering our questions :) We love you :)

Book Oscar Winner: Interview with Natasha Madison

Hey Everyone :)

We have a really fun interview with The Book Oscar Winner in the category for Best New Author, Natasha Madison :) Just scroll down and check it out :)

Hi Natasha :)

Congratulations on your win and welcome to Living in Our Own Story :) Thanks a lot for sparing the time to answer a few questions for us and our readers.

LIOS:  What prompted you to write and release your first book?.
Natasha: I was a blogger for three years before I got dared into trying to write my own book. I opened a document and just started writing. That turned into Something So Right.

LIOS: What is your inspiration for writing such incredible books?
Natasha: I have to see the story in my head before I start writing. Even before I open the document. Then it comes out of me. I usually listen to music to get a feel for it. But sometimes the characters have different ideas.

LIOS: When did you know you wanted to be an author?
Natasha: When I sent my book to my closest friends and lied about it being me who wrote it. When they came back with all good feedback I got the courage that I could do this.

LIOS: How long on average does it take you to write a book?
Natasha: Depending on the content of the book. The darker books took me the longest. I was so excited to write Tempt the Boss that it took me a month.

LIOS: Who is your favorite book boyfriend?
Natasha: There are to many to name.

LIOS: Who is your author idol?
Natasha: I think Kristen Ashley walks on water.

LIOS: What sexy scene from your books you would like to re-enact in real life?
Natasha: The ocean sex scene in Something So Right

LIOS: Do you remember the first book that made you cry and how old were you?
Natasha: I don’t usually cry at books. I will say that I sobbed like a baby when I read a scene in Walk Through Fire by KA

LIOS: How do you select the names of your characters?
Natasha: I am so bad at this that there is more than one Chris in Pieces of Heaven. Often times when I need a name I look at the TV or I ask my husband. Funny story I didn’t even name Bella in Hell and Back till 10,000 words in. I forgot to name her

LIOS: What was your hardest scene to write?
Natasha: The beating and motel scene in Hell And Back,

LIOS: What can we expect from you next?
Natasha: I’ve said that 2017 will be filled with ranbows, unicorns and glitter farts.

LIOS: Thank you Natasha for spending some time with us and answering our questions :) We love you :)
