Zenn Scarlett

Título: Zenn Scarlett
Autor: Christian Schoon
Editorial: Strange Chemistry

Title: Zenn Scarlett
Author: Christian Schoon
Editorial: Strange Chemistry
Synopsis: When you're studying to be exoveterinarian specializing in exotic, alien life forms, school... is a different kind of animal.

Zenn Scarlett is a resourceful, determined 17-year-old girl working hard to make it through her novice year of exovet training. That means she's learning to care for alien creatures that are mostly large, generally dangerous and profoundly fascinating. Zenn’s all-important end-of-term tests at the Ciscan Cloister Exovet Clinic on Mars are coming up, and, she's feeling confident of acing the exams. But when a series of inexplicable animal escapes and other disturbing events hit the school, Zenn finds herself being blamed for the problems. As if this isn't enough to deal with, her absent father has abruptly stopped communicating with her; Liam Tucker, a local towner boy, is acting unusually, annoyingly friendly; and, strangest of all: Zenn is worried she's started sharing the thoughts of the creatures around her. Which is impossible, of course. Nonetheless, she can't deny what she's feeling.

Now, with the help of Liam and Hamish, an eight-foot sentient insectoid also training at the clinic, Zenn must learn what's happened to her father, solve the mystery of who, if anyone, is sabotaging the cloister, and determine if she's actually sensing the consciousness of her alien patients... or just losing her mind. All without failing her novice year...

MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER: Zenn Scarlett is the heroine of a dystopian future full of aliens. She is my favorite character, she is the main character because she has the most appealing personality, and because she is the protagonist. I like that she is independent and she does not give in to the difficulties, she is one of these heroines that does not need anybody  to defend her.

Opinion: I had the opportunity to read Zenn Scarlett through NetGalley and I read it during  the Easter Holidays. This book is  easy and fast to read, I read it in the car on the trip from Zaragoza to Murcia.
The story is very entertaining as the author takes you into a new world full of aliens, new universes and galaxies.  Almost all the characters are secondary, I wanted to see more of Liam because it looks like he has feelings for Zenn but very little happens. I missed more romance, but that's something that usually happens to me because I'm a hopeless romantic.
The dystopian future in which this story takes place is wonderful, as the author explains in such detail that I really imagined that I was living on Mars with the characters. I loved that is not the typical dystopia in which everything goes around policy.
Actually, I was very surprised by this book and I really want it to be publish,  in order to get the second book as soon as I can.

El libro que estoy esperando leer es:

Título: The Truth About You & Me
Autor: Amanda Grace
Editorial: Flux Books
Fecha de publicación en EEUU: 08/09/2013
Sinopsis: Las chicas inteligentes no hacen cosas estúpidas.

Synopsis: Smart girls aren't supposed to do stupid things.

Madelyn Hawkins is super smart. At sixteen, she's so gifted that she can attend college through a special program at her high school. On her first day, she meets Bennet. He's cute, funny, and kind. He understands Madelyn and what she's endured—and missed out on—in order to excel academically and please her parents. Now, for the first time in her life, she's falling in love.

There's only one problem. Bennet is Madelyn's college professor, and he thinks she's eighteen—because she hasn't told him the truth.

The story of their forbidden romance is told in letters that Madelyn writes to Bennet—both a heart-searing ode to their ill-fated love and an apology

San Jorge / St. George's Day

Today we celebrated St. George's Day and 'the day of the book' in our town. So we spent the day among books, browsing through the stands and stores... We share here some pictures but as you can see this day consists mainly of crowds, books, strolls, flowers... So for another year we have ended up with several books, several flowers and.. ice-cream! (this is actually a little tradition of our own :D)

Guideon DeVilliers

Nueva semana, nuevo Bad Boy...

New week, new Bad Boy... Today we have a character from a very recent saga that is becoming more and more popular lately after the release of its movie: Guideon DeVilliers from the Ruby Red trilogy (Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue and Emerald Green).

Guideon is the last time traveler from the DeVilliers family, the same age as the main character of the saga, Gwendolyn Sheperd. But he is an experienced traveler while she has never been trained for that; so at first he treats her as an incompetent child. When they find out that is Gwen the one with the time travel gene they both are bound to spend a lot of time together taking care of several missions but things don't start out very well between them; Guideon does not treat Gwen right, he acts arrogantly and in an insolent way, just as Charlotte does (Gwen's 'perfect' cousin, who was the one that should have inherited the gene). They slowly become close to each other and their relationship changes and improves, but not before several misunderstandings and arguments in their adventures through time...

The movie of the first book of the trilogy has just been released but the author, Kerstin Gier, is a German writer and so is the production. So for now we don't know if the movie will be dubbed into Spanish or English, we'll have to wait and see the reception it has in Germany.
