Oracle- Guardians of Truth book 1

Coming - September 28, 2017

Rhennan Ward is no one special. Or so she thought. When her grandmother gives her a Tree of Life pendant for her eighteenth birthday, she finds out how very different she really is.

Rhennan is next in line to be Oracle, the one chosen by the Creator to guard the secret of Heaven – The Tree of Life. Rhen's grandmother, the current Oracle, fails to pass along the knowledge of Rhen’s destiny, and when strange things start happening, Rhen believes she is going crazy. Coming into her powers before her time, Rhen sees things she shouldn’t. Her parents are keeping secrets from her, and that only adds to the stress she feels about her sanity.

Maddox Bell is the new guy at school. When the tall, good-looking bad-boy shows up in his leather jacket and moto boots, all it takes is one look into his sapphire eyes, and he makes Rhen forget about her ex-boyfriend - the one who broke her heart. He also makes her forget to study, and with only three months left in the school year, Rhen is torn between keeping her perfect grade point average and spending time with the man who has his own secrets. As Maddox and Rhen become closer, things get stranger, threatening to rip them apart.

When Rhen makes one desperately wrong decision, her life and that of her family, is irrevocably changed forever.  “If this was Hell, the Christians on Earth were going to be pissed.”

Talon Silver is the Guardian who has been watching over Rhen her entire life. He is also the one who rescues her from the hands of a demon. He is supposed to be one of the good guys, having Angel blood. Why, then, is Rhen hesitant to trust him?

Angels and demons. Good versus evil. Things aren’t always black and white, and Rhen has to figure out who she can trust.

Chapter One

Have you ever had a possum walk across your grave? You know that feeling that starts at your nape and snakes its way down your spine while the hair on your arms stands on end? Your whole body shivers while you look around for the boogeyman, but you can’t see anything. I was sitting in first period when it happened to me.

Again.

It didn’t take long to figure out the cause. Our classroom door opened, and in walked the most beautiful man I had ever seen. And when I say man, I mean this guy had to be a substitute teacher or someone’s older brother, because there was no way he was young enough to be a student. Long black hair brushed his shoulders which were encased in a well-worn leather jacket. Faded jeans led to a pair of black moto boots. His most striking feature, from the quick perusal I had given him, was his eyes. They were a deep sapphire. I know this because I sat close to the front of the room.

And he was staring straight at me.

That might not have been so odd if I were Brittany or Kinsley, the prettiest girls in our class. But I wasn’t. I was plain Rhennan Ward. For whatever reason, none of the other kids were paying any attention to him. I turned my head toward my best friend. Surely Jenna would be staring at him too. She wasn’t. What the heck was going on? Was I the only one who could see how gorgeous this man was? When I turned back around, Mr. Blue Eyes was headed toward me. I lowered my chin to my chest and averted my gaze until he stopped and took the only vacant seat in the classroom, which happened to be right next to mine. Great.

“Class, I would like for you to welcome Maddox Bell. He comes to us from…” Mrs. Bain looked back down at the piece of paper she was holding and frowned. “Anyway, say hello to Maddox.”

Maddox. Of course he would have a cool name. Not Bill or Ted, but I had no doubt this guy had plenty of excellent adventures. His name matched his swagger, and I still didn’t believe he wasn’t older than the rest of us. Half the class muttered hello while the other half continued to ignore the new guy the way they usually did.

Maddox Bell wasn’t just another guy. Something about him was different. My skin was still itching from the way he had looked right at me. Maybe he was an undercover cop. It’s not like our school was exempt from kids selling drugs or teens running away. Northfield was your average public high school. But that wouldn’t explain why he had singled me out. I was pretty boring for the most part. No boyfriend. Highest grade point average out of over three hundred seniors. My social life consisted of going for coffee drinks after school with my best friend and hanging out with my little sister. See? Boring.

I wanted so badly to turn and stare at him to make sure I hadn’t been wrong about his looks or his age. Maybe he was so good-looking the others couldn’t look his way, like he was an Angel or something. Now you’re being ridiculous. My thoughts had been off-kilter lately, so thinking Maddox Bell was an Angel wasn’t out of the norm.

“Rhennan, if you would share your book with Mr. Bell until we can find him one, I would appreciate it,” Mrs. Bain announced. Maddox didn’t hesitate to scoot his desk closer to mine, sliding his arm along the back of my chair and leaning toward me. How did he know I was Rhennan? I turned my head to ask him that, but the words died in my throat. Either I was going crazy, or the pupils of his eyes were slitted like a snake’s. He blinked, and they were back to the same deep blue that had pierced me moments before. Yep. Going crazy.

I swallowed hard as I pushed my chemistry book over so it was half on my desk and half on his. After that, I kept my eyes down and off Maddox Bell. More than once his breath ghosted across my neck and cheek as he leaned closer, but I locked down the urge to face him. His scent alone – a mixture of leather and smoke – was doing crazy things to my brain.  None of the other boys in our school smelled this good, not that I went around sniffing them. Then again, none of the other boys looked this good, and they sure didn’t make me see things that weren’t there.

For the last two weeks, ever since my eighteenth birthday, my life had gone from normal to anything but. Before the tenth, or BTT as I liked to call it, I was just a regular girl who made good grades and spent time with her little sister and her best friend. I didn’t dream at night, or if I did, I didn’t remember them. Now, not only was I having vivid dreams – most of which were nightmares – but I was remembering every little detail in Technicolor. During the day, I had started having flashes of someone or something in my peripheral vision, but when I turned to look, there was nothing there. I had the feeling of being followed. Watched.

I had read articles in various magazines about trusting your instincts. How your gut feeling was the universe’s way of cluing you in on what was happening around you. My instincts had been on high alert ever since my birthday. I wish my instincts would chill out, because they had me on edge, and I couldn’t afford that. Not with only three months left until I graduated.

It was a good thing I was a straight-A student, because I had no idea what Mrs. Bain said for the next forty-five minutes. Dizziness danced around me, and it took every ounce of willpower I had not to run from the room. When the bell rang, I grabbed my book and slammed it shut a little harder than necessary; but in my defense, my brain wasn’t functioning properly, and I blamed that on Maddox. Instead of going to my locker, I waited outside the classroom for Jenna, and as soon as she cleared the door, I grabbed her sleeve and pulled her farther down the hall. “Did you see him?” I gushed.

“That Maddox kid? Yeah, why?” she asked nonchalantly, like he wasn’t some kind of god in black leather.

I looked around to make sure nobody was listening, and said, “You’re kidding, right? There’s no way he’s eighteen.”

No Ordinary Star Review

Title: No Ordinary Star (No Ordinary Star#1)
Author: M.C.Frank
Synopsis: A soldier is summoned to the North Pole, days before the year changes, told to fix the great Clock for a celebration. He has no idea what to do. A girl, hunted for the crime of being born, almost dies out on the ice. She is rescued by the last polar bear left alive. A library waits for them both, a library built over a span of a hundred years, forgotten in the basement of an ice shack. The world hasn't known hunger or sickness in hundreds of years. It has also forgotten love and beauty. The year is 2525. Inspired by the short stories of Ray Bradbury, this futuristic novel is set in a world where Christmas -among other things- is obsolete and a Clock is what keeps the fragile balance of peace. Written in three installments, this is the breathtaking and sensual story of how two unlikely people change the world, and each other, one book at a time. Immerse yourself into the icy cold world of this scorching hot new novel.

No Ordinary Star is the first installment in the new dystopian series by M.C.Frank. Even though this is the first book I have read by this author I am enthralled to have discovered her.

Each chapter varies in length, but they are not awfully long so the reading experience is fast paced. One of the things that I adored about this book is how concise and to the point each chapter is. I love a long book when the story requires it cause I get to spend more time with the characters but in No Ordinary Star, there was no need to drag the scenes into more than they were. We get to experience the essence of the characters in every word, their development is tangible not only for the reader but also for the characters itself.

I loved that through the stories we get to have alternating points of view cause we get to feel the book deeper.  The whole concept and setting of the story is unique and charming, I hate when books only focus on politics or on how the world became what it is. I have always been more interested in feeling the story the characters are telling rather than knowing why the world went to hell. I am still interested in that part since it is crucial for the story development but No Ordinary Star perfectly balances character development, intriguing plot and lyrical writing.

Have I talked about how amazing the writing style is? I am enamored with how twisted and poetic every paragraph feels, is like a work of art. The author bends the meaning of each line to give a new detail to the narration. Absolutely magnificent!

Can´t wait to read the next book to see what happens next!

REVIEW: Diamonds & Desire by Angelita Gill

Title: Diamonds & Desire (The Priceless Collection Series #1)
Author: Angelita Gill
Synopsis: Nothing shines quite like a diamond... Jordana Shaw thinks taking her sister's place at a charity auction will be a fun alternative for a Saturday night. Little does she know this favor will change her world forever. Before the night is through, she's got a diamond necklace in her purse, an unconscious handsome millionaire in bed, and an unbelievable story to tell him in the morning. Nothing tastes quite like desire... It's not every day a man is rescued by a woman he just met. Logan Savant is not only grateful to Jordana, but also surprisingly enchanted, and eager to return the favor. Little does he know it'll start with a trip to Vegas to stop her sister's wedding. But that's just the beginning. Because bringing her into his world is costing more than he ever imagined.

Diamonds & Desire is the first book I have read by Angelita Gill and I it excelled my expectations.  It is a really captivating tale of two souls that find each other at the perfect moment. It is not an insta-love kind of book, it is all about desire and luxury. The title itself is absolutely fitting because everything started because of diamonds and desire.

Both characters suffer in their lives and find in each other a solace that they were not expecting. I was utterly captivated by the chemistry between Logan and Jordana. Logan has everything a male main character should have, he is sexy, caring, addictive, witty and mysterious. On the other hand, Jordana is one of the most reliable female characters I have encountered in 2016, she is loyal, genuine, fierce and down to earth. The incorporation of secondary characters, especially at the end of the book, serves to tease the future of the next book. It left me craving a new story!

It was a light, fun and sexy read. Undoubtedly, I recommend this book because I swear I haven´t read any book quite like this one.

REVIEW: Your Forever Love (The Bennett Family #3) by Layla Hagen

Title: Your Forever Love (The Bennett Family #3)
Author: Layla Hagen
Synopsis: Eric Callahan is a powerful man, and his sharp business sense has earned him the nickname Shark. Yet under the strict façade is a man who loves his daughter and would do anything for her. When he and his daughter move to San Francisco for three months, he has one thing in mind: expanding his business on the West Coast. As a widower, Eric is not looking for love. He focuses on his company, and his daughter. Until he meets Pippa Bennett. She captivates him from the moment he sets eyes on her, and what starts as unintentional flirting soon spirals into something neither of them can control. Pippa Bennett knows she should stay away from Eric Callahan. After going through a rough divorce, she doesn’t trust men anymore. But there’s something about Eric that just draws her in. He has a body made for sin, and a sense of humor that matches hers. Not to mention that seeing how adorable he is with his daughter melts Pippa’s walls one by one. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but it’s the connection that grows deeper every day that has both of them wonder if love might be within their reach. When it’s time for Eric and his daughter to head back home, will he give up on the woman who has captured his heart or will he do everything in his power to remain by her side?

My Review:

I´ve loved Layla Hagen´s stories since I first read a book by her which was Lost in Us. I´ve been lucky enough to appreciate her evolution as a writer through her beautiful stories.  In her #Lost series I was amazed by her storytelling charm, in Withering Hope the characters´complexity, depth and above all the feelings both characters made me feel. And finally with The Bennett Family series, the utterly addictive dialogues and banter between all the sets of characters kept me on my toes the whole time.

Your Forever Love is the third instalment on The Bennett Family series and is the only one I have read from this series but I am planning on fixing it as soon as possible because I so want to stay immersed in this amazing world.  I´ve always been spellbound by the city of San Francisco since I first visited it 6 years ago and this book has make me want to go back there.

The chemistry between Eric and Pippa is out of the charts and I am simply in love with both of them. Pippa is independent, brave, caring and protective of her family, and even though she has been hurt before she is willing to give love a second chance. However, Eric who has also been hurt is more reticent to open not just his heart but also his daughter´s heart to new chances at love. At the same time, all the secondary characters have their own true personalities that make you want to keep reading all the books just to discover how each of their stories will end.

All in all, I am enamored with Layla Hagen´s books, they are the perfect mix of beloved characters, believable stories, catching dialogues and beautiful settings. I would undoubtedly recommend this book to everyone who loves a good witty and funny romance with scorching scenes that will leave you wanting for more Bennett family adventures.

teaser
EXCERPT:
“We own most of the land in the Tech Center. My father bought up the land thirty years ago before any of this was here. And we lease it out.”
Jesus. What kind of money is that? I can’t even begin to understand it.
“Anyway,” Mac says, standing. “I’m waiting in here for a reason.”
“Is that right?” I stand up too, but my heart beats a little faster when I take him in. He’s wearing a dark gray suit today, a blue shirt that is so light it’s barely a color, and another brilliant cerulean-blue tie that makes his matching eyes shine as they stare into mine.
I don’t know why, but I step backwards. His full attention on me suddenly feels more like a force than a look. He steps forward, hands reaching for me. I bump against the wall, no escape, and then he fists the front of my blouse and rips it open, revealing my silk cami.
My mouth opens in surprise.
He rips the cami apart too. And then, with one forceful whoosh, both garments are lying in a puddle of fabric on the floor.
“What are you doing?” I yell.
The intense stare turns to a boyish smile. “I’d like you topless for breakfast. And I get to call the shots for our dates.”
“Why do I even bother with you? Just why?” I refuse to cross my arms and cover my tits. Fuck him. Just fuck him. “Every time I start to think you’re not a pig, you go and do something like this.”
“It’s fun, right?” His smile never cracks.
“No,” I say. “It’s humiliating.”
“Your tits are nice, Ellie. You should not be ashamed of them.”
“I’m not ashamed of them—”
“Good. Because I’d like to stare at them while we have coffee and discuss our date tonight.”
A knock comes from Mac’s office and I might have a panic attack that someone will come in and find me bare like this.
“Hold that thought,” Mac says, leaning down to kiss my lips. “Breakfast is here. Sit,” he says, pushing on my shoulders until I slump into the window seat again. “I’ll be right back.”
And then he enters his office, pulling our connecting door closed.
I listen to the conversation in there as I look down at my clothes. What the hell was he thinking? The cami is dust. Ripped straight down the middle. At least the silk button-up shirt is only missing all the buttons. I can probably tie it around my waist to make it out to the parking lot, but—
There’s a jingle of a cart and plates. We have… room service? What kind of company has room service?
I guess I’m not all that surprised they have it up here. We have several restaurants on campus. The Atrium has a cafeteria. Maybe this came from the cafeteria?
Mac is laughing on the other side of the door, then I hear a polite thank you just before the sound of a closing door.
The connecting door swings open again and Mac is there, a wide grin on his face. “I hope you like pancakes.”
“This is not happening.”
“Oh, this is happening, Miss Hatcher. You are sitting here.” He points to the middle of the window seat as he pushes the cart towards me.
“I have no clothes, Mac. You ripped my cami. I’m going to have to tie that over-shirt on and go home to change. In fact,” I say, reaching down to get my blouse and pull myself together, “I’m not coming back. I’m done. Just when I think you’re a human, you act like an ape.”
“Would you just relax, Ellie?” He rips the shirt from my hands, balls it up, and then tosses it in the air, where it arcs perfectly and sails into the new trashcan that matches the desk. “Three points,” he says.
“It’s like you live in your own world or something. I think it’s funny that you accused me of living in some delusional fantasy, but you, Mr. Stonewall, you’re a raving lunatic who thinks the world is his asylum.”
“I’m going to take that as a compliment. Now sit. I’ve got it all under control.”
